Flying Solo ✈️

Last June 21, 2015 I had the chance to fly solo. I was very nervous yet very excited! I guess, this is one of the perks of working in an airline. When I first received an email informing of my upcoming training in Singapore I was so thrilled to inform my parents about it. Since I’m their only child, their initial plan was to go with me. #clingyparents To be honest, I was ok with it but there’s a part of me that says “Please don’t go with me. You have to trust me that I can do this alone.” and I think God heard me that my parents suddenly decided to let me go, alone.

When I started telling other people (friends and relatives) about my upcoming trip for a week in Singapore, their first question was: Who are you going with? When I said I was going on my own, everyone’s just nodding their head saying “Are you sure you’ll be okay?”, “I can go with you if you want to.”, “Aren’t you scared?”. Everybody’s concern and I totally appreciate that but people who knows me well knows that I’ve been quite a champion at being independent. I felt that my mom was sad of the thought that I had no one to travel with. I told my mom that travelling alone doesn’t always mean you’ll be lonely and plus, I’d go to Singapore for training not for leisure. Ha ha I assured my parents that everything has been taken cared of by our company (accommodations, transfers, and allowance) so there’s nothing to worry about.

I started fixing my baggage the night before my departure. I was allowed to bring 30k for baggage and 7k for hand carry. I brought 5 footwear with me (1 heels, 1 flat black shoes, 2 flat ballet shoes, and 1 sandals). My mom was so worried that I might be bumped off from the flight due to excess baggage. However, when I got to the airport and had my baggage weight, it was only 11kg!

My flight from Manila was a Sunday and this was my “extra” whole day just for myself and the training started the following day. My parents together with our family friends, Tita Marilyn and Kevin brought me to the airport. My flight was at 7:30 A.M. and I had to be at the airport at least 3 hours before the flight. So after checking in, we ate breakfast at McDonald’s which is just inside the airport.

It was my first time to ride a public bus in Singapore. I have visited the place for several times so I never really had the chance to commute here before.

5 Things My Mom Told Me While Growing Up

When I was a kid, I didn’t really understand nor appreciate the things my Mom tells me until now..

“Hay naku, pag laki mo you will remember me saying this to you.”

I remember the time when I was watching TV and my Mom would say “Hey! not too close or you will be blind!” and when I read my books, she would say “Don’t read in the dark.” Thank God I listened to my mom even though it annoys me as a child. Most of my friends have to wear glasses because of poor eyesight. Thank you Mom for constantly reminding me this things until now.

“Don’t be shy to share your talents.”

 My Mom said I started singing when I was 12 months old and started mocking my favorite Filipino singer as a child, Jessa Zaragoza. Singing is my first love. My mom has always been very supportive that she enrolled me in workshops. I would always get invited to big events in our town to sing and perform. Performing in front of a crowd gives me different emotions and the best thing about it is I get to inspire people to share their own talents too. I also grew up in a musically inclined family. Everyone knows how to play the piano except me who decided to have more intimate relationship with guitars. I’m inlove with guitars, I treat them as my own babies. lol

“Good people do bad things. Bad people do good things.”

Nobody is perfect, only He is. At a certain point, no matter how good a person is, he/she will do bad things but it is okay and it is normal. This is one of the reasons that no matter how people hurt me I never lose hope in humanity.

“Slow down. Don’t rush life.”

Life is already short for you to rush it. Enjoy every second and every minute of it because time fades and last thing you know, life is already over. Mom also taught me that life is unfair but it isn’t life if it isn’t and that totally makes sense. Live life to the fullest. No one will hate you for living life too fully.

“Pray and trust that God is with you.”

This is the best-est thing Mom has taught me. Mom taught me to never give up on what God has given me because God will not give me something I cannot handle. God has plans for me more than I have for myself so pray and thank him everyday for the blessings. If I need help, I pray. If I’m in doubt, I pray. If I’m sad, I pray. If I’m happy, I pray. I trust God with all my heart as much as I trust my Mom with everything she has taught me.

What makes me happy

1. Music

I seriously can’t imagine life without music. I listen to music when I’m happy, sad, whatever my mood is, Music is basically part of my daily life.

2. Guitars

Bought my acoustic guitar when I was 12. He is my favorite home buddy for the past 9 years. My electric guitar was given to me by my father. He thought it would make me happy and he was right. Rock on \m/

3. Instagram Photos

I just love how I see beauty in all things, take a photo of it and post it on Instagram. It’s not really about the number of likes. It’s about showing how beautiful our world and life is through some pictures.

4. Shoes

 

 

From flats to heels to sneakers to flip flops! urghhh! Shoes are worth paying for! HAHA My mom would usually scold me for buying foot wear everytime I go to the mall. But for me, beautiful shoes will take you to the most beautiful places.

5. Rosary

I feel safe everyday simply because I have my rosary with me. It constantly reminds me of my faith in God and my faith for myself.

6. Make up

For me, these stuff are girls’ bestfriends. 🙂

7. Cooking shows

 

It’s ironic how I love all these cooking or food tv shows when I really don’t know how to cook and I don’t eat a lot. I can spend the whole day just watching these kind of shows.

8. Pillows and blanket

I just get so clingy with them beside me! zzz Who doesn’t?

Dear 16 year old Neds,

Hi! I know you are having a lot of fun right now and all you think of is your friends and your boyfriend but believe me when I say “It won’t last.”. You will have your heart broken by that guy but don’t worry he’ll be sorry for doing so. I’m pretty sure you’ll move on and be wiser and more picky next time. hahaha

In the meantime, you have to focus more on deciding which course you want to take in College! I know deep down how excited you are and yet sad because you’re gonna leave the school that became your second home for the past 13 years. You’re scared aren’t you? Of course you are but there’s nothing to worry about because college will not only teach you your Major subjects, lessons on your books but the best thing is it will offer you a lesson called Life 101.

You will be taking a lot of exam from different colleges and universities. You will take different exams for different courses because your childhood dream to become a newscaster suddenly changed to becoming a film director, to an interior designer, to a dentist but your final choice will surprise you because it was never in your plan. You will be entering a newly opened international school and you will be taking up Bachelor of Science in Travel Management! You always love to travel but I’m sure you never see it coming! Haha but yes, Treston International College will be your new home for the next 4 years!

In college, you will meet a lot of different people and you have to choose wisely your friends. Since you are only 16, let me give you one piece of advice. Love yourself first before you love other people. You have to start thinking of yourself because not all people around you right now will stay and will be there for you for the rest of your life. People come and go and you have to deal with it. I don’t want to scare you but I want you to be ready in facing the reality. Don’t let this bring you down instead take this as something that will motivate you to be a better person. Always remember also that you don’t have to be perfect because nobody will ever be perfect. People will trust you and never ever break their trust even if they have failed you. It’s always a part of life. 🙂

Not to spoil the ending for you but you will be okay. You will be able to go through all these challenges from school stuff, friends arguments,dramas, just basically everything. You will survive and be happy. Remember that the person writing this now is You. You’re stronger than you ever could imagine and I’m so proud of you. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t be afraid to show them who you really are. 🙂

Thank you 2014!

It’s hard to sum up all the best things that happened in 2014 and show it through some pictures. 2013 was a year full of emotions while 2014 made me experience one of the best roller coaster rides I could ever imagine. 2014 was the year which taught me that if we plant a lot of seeds and take good care of it until they are already full grown then we can harvest something from it. Let me share to you the best parts of my journey last year, 2014! 🙂

I celebrated a milestone! I graduated college with flying colors! can you believe that? I can’t believe it either hihi 🙂

I never really get nervous whenever I perform in front of a crowd but when I was about to receive my diploma, I felt my heart was beating really fast and my feet were shaking.I was asking myself while going up on stage, “is this real??” and then I heard a voice in the back of my head saying “Yes Neds, you finally made it! All your hardwork pays off!”. When I was finally in the center of the stage I looked at my parents and said to myself “It’s time to give back Neds.”. 🙂

Everything is possible with these two! I love them! 🙂 I don’t know how will I be able to thank them enough for everything that they have done for me. 🙂

Last year, I was able to organize an event for our national organization for Tourism Students which was attended by 1,300 delegates from different colleges and universities all over the Philippines. 🙂

Someone better.

How do we know if we deserve someone better?

Honestly, I don’t really know the answer. One of the mistakes I keep doing in my life is settling for less. I always settle for something less especially when it comes to relationships. I would always make excuses to why I don’t deserve the best where in fact, we all deserve nothing but only the best, right?

Have you ever heard of the lines:

“It’s not you, it’s me.”

“You don’t deserve someone like me.”

“The timing is wrong. Maybe someday.”

Thank God I haven’t heard any of those and hopefully not because if I do I’m gonna slap that person in the face and dump him right away and tell him that it’s BS because he just got those lines on romantic flicks which is undeniably and totally gay. And I think “You deserve better” line is synonymous to “I don’t want to hurt you, I want you to be happy but I don’t love you anymore”.

Recently, I realized that I have always been on the wrong end of unequal relationships and believe me, it feels terrible. I know that feelings of worthlessness, neediness and confusion suck. However, life has still it’s own way of making things funny. We may experience a lot of situations, heartaches and nonsense attachments but one thing is for sure, not all relationship ends in the same painful fashion. 

Yes my dear, there are lots of happy and healthy relationships out there so believe that you deserve one. 🙂 Love is not something we have to rush. Rush relationships are usually hit by accidents and just end. Make sense? 

Last night, a friend of mine asked me how do I have the guts to just shut people out of my life, let people leave if they want to or just move on after a breakup. Well here’s my answer, whenever people leave, I would always think that they’re actually doing me a huge favor. There’s this quote that says, “Never chase love, affection, or attention. If it isn’t given freely by another person, it isn’t worth having”.

I hate hearing girls say that “I love him and the way he makes me feel.”  whenever they’re asked why do they want their guy back. He’s your boyfriend and how do boyfriends generally try to make their girls feel? Don’t you think you deserve someone who treats you the way you deserve to be treated? 🙂 Don’t you realize that the person you haven’t met and would want to spend the rest of their life with you will do anything and his best to take your pain away instead of making it worse?

I bet you never thought of it that way because you are too busy going gaga about him. And when we’re crazy about someone, we usually tend to be blind. When I ended my relationship two months ago with the guy who keeps on saying he loves me but doesn’t do anything to prove it to me, I asked myself and maybe you should ask yourself too: Why go the rest of your life getting less than you give? When you do not get what you give then it’s time to give that relationship a cold, hard evaluation. This doesn’t apply on romantic relationships only okay?

This is why I said people are doing me a huge favor whenever they leave me. Because they may be closing their doors but they are also opening another for me. An open door where the right people are and the people I truly deserve, someone better.

Vulnerable

Isn’t it amazing how a person who once was a stranger, suddenly meant the world to you? but what if, just what if, you felt that he’s not the one you deserve and that you deserve better?

You know at this age, the worst thing we can do to ourselves is to fall for someone harder than they fall for us. And if you’d ask me if I’m the one falling harder? the answer is yes. I’m always the one who loves more. I guess, that’s my thing.

Do you guys believe that communication is the key to a lasting relationship? For me, communication is as important as trust. But what would you do if your partner isn’t communicating? I’m in a relationship with this guy and I feel that I always frustrate him whenever I open up about how I feel. I want to be honest and I just want to tell him everything that’s going on in my mind because I believe that he’s the one I’m supposed to be telling everything. I’m not the typical girl who would open up to her friends about her relationship problems. So whenever I feel we have a problem, I would always talk to him because I’m under the impression that people in a relationship are supposed to solve problems by discussing them.

But somehow, our discussions would usually turn into arguments. And it would come to a point where both of us would have no idea what the initial discussion was about. The conversation would have turned so many corners that we’d need a map to get out. And the argument would usually end not understanding each others feelings. I realized that I have to stay away from having any discussion about anything that would upset him or me. I agree with almost everything he wants until now that I realized, I’m living his life not mine.

I’m now afraid.. afraid to communicate, to show my vulnerability and believe me, its a lonely place to be. But my love is stronger than my loneliness. A relationship isn’t about leaving when something goes wrong. It’s about being there for the good and the bad. I believe that we’ll just have to work through this. I hope I’m not wrong that love is strong, love is kind, and love sticks around.

              Fact: We all want to be with someone who brings out the best in us and not the stress in us.

Fact: He must love or at least respect the people you love.

14. Doesn’t just text you, but rather, will pick up the phone and call you because he needs to hear your voice.

                 Fact: He’s really into you.

15. Who shows you his softer side, and admits the things he’s most afraid of.

                 Fact: The man trust you enough to admit that he’s also afraid of some things. And he’s already giving you a part of him that you could possibly break; his heart.

16. Thinks you’re pretty without makeup.

                Fact: He loves you just the way you are.

17. Is patient with you.

                Fact: Love is patient.

18. Wants to show you off to the world whether you’re in sweats or an evening gown.

Fact: When a guy wants to show you off to the world when you think you are at your worst, he sees you differently.

19. Who speaks with love and not anger.

                Fact: Nobody wants a person who makes his mouth work faster than his brain, right?

20. Who doesn’t need to be told you need him, he can just tell.

                Fact: A real woman can do it all by herself BUT a real man won’t let her.

This post doesn’t want girls to think twice about their guy. Most guys aren’t showy so give him time or try to read between the lines. I also understand that girls have their “dream” guys. But I would rather pick the right guy rather than my dream guy. Girls, always remember that a real man knows what we need so stop focusing on what you “want”. If you focus too much on what you “wanted”, you can become blind to truly see him when he finally arrives.
